Properties
Alloy 446 is a high chromium ferritic stainless steel commonly used in high temperature applications from 1500 degF to 2200 degF. 446 is the most oxidation resistant steel among the 400 series stainless'. Its resistance to cyclic oxidation is equal to or better than 309 and 310, but has lower strength at elevated temperatures.
Applications
Alloy 446 is used to make parts and equipment that require excellent high temperature resistance to oxidation and corrosion. Examples include: burners, boiler parts, thermocouple protectors, injector nozzles in molten compounds, flame rods and metal to glass bonding parts.
